What you're actually
paying for.
Your reception is six hours. The job is closer to thirty. Here's where the money goes, because you deserve to be able to explain it to whoever's asking.
- ~12 hoursPlanning before the day — timeline calls, your song lists and do-not-play list, coordinating with your planner and venue, and a run-through of every announcement before anybody hears it live.
- 2 systemsA ceremony is not a reception. Vows outdoors need their own speakers and wireless mics; the dance floor needs something else entirely. Most couples are quoted for one and find out the difference on the day.
- Every backupA second laptop, a spare mixer, a battery-powered speaker, and more cable than we'll ever use. It's dead weight on ninety-nine nights. On the hundredth it's the reason your father-in-law's toast still happens.
- InsuredLiability coverage your venue almost certainly requires in writing. Plenty of cheaper DJs don't carry it, and you find out three weeks before the wedding when your coordinator asks for the certificate.
- One a dayYour DJ takes exactly one wedding on your date. Holding it means turning down every other couple who wants that Saturday — which is most of the reason the number is what it is, and all of the reason nobody arrives at your wedding having already worked a brunch.
- Same personThe one who planned it is the one on the microphone is the one reading your dance floor at 10pm. No handoff, nobody briefed in the parking lot.

you get the same night.
Every DNA DJ is fluent in English and Spanish, MCs their own room, and is trained on the same approach to reading a multicultural crowd. Nobody on this roster is learning on your wedding.
You'll know exactly who yours is before you sign anything. If you already have a favourite from a wedding you attended, ask for them by name.
Being fair about it
We're not always
the right answer.
You have four real options and we're only one of them. Here's the honest version of each, including when you should pick the other one.
Someone starting out
Every good DJ was this once, including all eight of us. Some of them are genuinely talented and underpriced right now.
Pick them if: your guest list is small, the room is easy, and you'd rather spend the difference on photography.
What you're usually not buying at that price is the boring half — insurance, backup gear, a second system for the ceremony, and someone who has already seen your specific night go wrong once.
Ask any DJ you're considering for their certificate of insurance and what happens if their laptop dies. The answer tells you a lot.
Already in the package
Genuinely convenient. They know the room, the load-in and the coordinator, and it's one less contract.
Pick them if: the package price is good and your music is straightforward.
You rarely get to choose the person, and almost never get to hear them first. For a wedding where half the toasts are in Spanish, that's a real gamble — "we have someone bilingual" and "our MC is fluent" are very different sentences.
A company with fifty DJs
Deep bench, easy to book, and they'll never leave you without somebody on the date.
Pick them if: you're booking late and availability matters more than who shows up.
You book the brand and get assigned a person, sometimes weeks out. Here you pick the individual, read how they work, hear a mix, and their name is on your contract before you sign it.
Free, and it works sometimes
It really does — at a backyard party, with a crowd that was always going to dance.
Pick this if: it's a small, casual reception and nobody needs to be on a microphone.
A playlist can't tell that your tíos are about to leave, or move the cake cutting because dinner ran twenty minutes late. And your friend spends your wedding working instead of being at it.
If one of those is the better call for your night, we'd genuinely rather you take it. We're expensive for the weddings we're wrong for.
